A 22-year-old man has appeared in court accused of killing two cyclists and injuring another in a crash near Gravesend, Kent. Aaron Turner, from Craylands Square in Swanscombe, was granted bail after appearing via video link at Medway Magistrates' Court.
Mr Turner is charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a crash, and possession of a class C drug. The court heard that Natasha Lewis, 51, and Steven Anscomb, 60, died from "traumatic and catastrophic" injuries in the incident on Sunday, while a third cyclist received hospital treatment.
Mr Turner is accused of having "lost control" of his white Ford Focus while travelling south-west near the village of Sole Street at approximately 07:45 BST. He is scheduled to appear next at Woolwich Crown Court on 7 October.
A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 19-year-old woman detained on suspicion of assisting an offender have both been released on police bail. Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
