Man charged with manslaughter after dog bite death in Wakefield

A 55-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a man who was bitten by a dog in Wakefield on Saturday.

A man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of another man who was bitten by a dog in West Yorkshire. The incident took place on a disused railway line off Blacker Lane in Calder Grove, Wakefield, at approximately 13:30 BST on Saturday.

Police stated that a 55-year-old man was critically injured in an altercation and died in hospital at about 19:00 the same day. Lee Ellis, 55, of Blacker Lane, has been charged with manslaughter and being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death, according to a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.

Mr Ellis has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court. A German Shepherd dog, understood to have been involved in the incident, has been seized by police officers and is currently in police kennels.
