Man charged with manslaughter after Finsbury Park burglary

A man has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated burglary following the death of 75-year-old Rose Smith in Finsbury Park.

  • Rose Smith, 75, died in hospital the day after a suspected burglary on 11 August.
  • Jeffrey Dean Rose, 46, has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated burglary.
  • An 81-year-old man was also taken to hospital and later discharged.

A man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a 75-year-old woman after a suspected burglary in north London. Police were called to Tollington Park in Finsbury Park at 21:20 BST on 11 August after reports of a burglary.

Rose Smith was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, where she died the following day. An 81-year-old man was also taken to hospital and discharged the next day.

Jeffrey Dean Rose, 46, of Apsley Close, North Harrow, was arrested on Friday, 21 August. He has since been charged with manslaughter and aggravated burglary.

Ms Smith's family described her as an "outgoing woman" who loved "bingo, going to cafés with her friends and, above all, spending time with her family". They added that their loss was devastating.
