Manchester City have opened talks with Chelsea in their bid to sign Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez. This development is set to be a key narrative on transfer deadline day, with City aiming for what could be one of the summer's most expensive deals.
Chelsea are reportedly seeking a minimum of £120m for the 25-year-old, and negotiations between the two clubs are currently underway to agree on a price. Chelsea had previously set an unofficial deadline for a £120m deal earlier in the summer, which passed without completion. Should the transfer go through, Fernandez could become one of the most expensive signings in Premier League history, potentially second only to Liverpool's £125m acquisition of Alexander Isak last summer.
This potential transfer could mark the second time City break their transfer record in the current window, having already paid £116m for Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. City have also seen four major midfield departures, including Tijjani Reijnders, Rodri, Nico Gonzalez, and Bernardo Silva.
