Man denies murder after victim dies 15 years post-assault

Jordan Burton has denied murder following the death of Daniel Allright, who died from an epileptic seizure more than 15 years after an assault in 2006.

  • Daniel Allright, 16 at the time of the 2006 attack, died aged 31 in March 2022 from an epileptic seizure.
  • Jordan Burton, 14 at the time of the incident, admitted violent disorder and causing grievous bodily harm in 2008.
  • The Old Bailey heard Mr Allright suffered brain injuries and underwent a craniotomy after being struck with weapons.

A man has been charged with murder after a victim of a violent assault died from a fatal epileptic seizure more than 15 years after the attack, a court has heard. Daniel Allright was 16 when he was attacked in south-east London in September 2006, and died aged 31 in March 2022.

Jordan Burton, now 33, was 14 at the time of the incident in Lewisham. Mr Burton admitted violent disorder and causing grievous bodily harm in 2008 but denies Mr Allright's murder.

The Old Bailey heard that Mr Allright was struck over the head with a piece of wood, an advertising board, and a bicycle chain, leading to brain injuries that caused seizures. Prosecutors allege Mr Burton was a party to the joint attack.

Mr Burton also faces an alternative charge of manslaughter, which the jury can consider. He was charged with murder by postal requisition in October 2025 and entered a not guilty plea the following month, stating he had not intended to cause serious bodily harm.
