Greater Manchester Police confirmed the man was taken to hospital and is fighting for his life. Fire crews and police remain at the scene, and neighbouring properties are being evacuated as a precaution. A woman has also received treatment for what police believe to be minor injuries.

Ash Street and Rochdale Road have been closed, with police advising people to avoid the area. Cadent, a gas network company, is assisting emergency services, but stated it is too early to confirm the cause of the explosion.
