A man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after driving a bulldozer into a pub in a 'revenge attack' following an argument. Daniel Morgan, 36, became enraged by comments made about the breakdown of his marriage while drinking at The Plough Inn in Shenstone, Staffordshire.
The court heard that after leaving the pub, Morgan returned approximately 30 minutes later in a large yellow bulldozer. He then proceeded to repeatedly ram the vehicle into the front of the establishment, causing extensive structural damage. The incident, which occurred in the early hours, led to significant disruption and left the pub in a state of disrepair.
Prosecutors detailed how Morgan's actions were a direct response to the earlier altercation. The landlord and staff present at the time were forced to take cover as the heavy machinery impacted the building. Fortunately, no one was physically injured during the destructive rampage, though the emotional impact on those present was considerable.
The damage caused to The Plough Inn has been estimated at approximately £40,000, leading to a temporary closure for repairs. Morgan pleaded guilty to charges of criminal damage and dangerous driving. In addition to his custodial sentence, he has been disqualified from driving for three years.
During sentencing, the judge condemned Morgan's behaviour, highlighting the severe danger he posed to public safety and the significant financial and emotional distress caused to the pub owners and community. The court emphasised that such acts of vigilantism and property destruction would not be tolerated.
