Mohammed Al Masri, 25, has been jailed for eight years for rape. Minshull Street Crown Court heard that Al Masri offered to get his victim a taxi home after a Christmas night out, but instead took her to his house where he carried out the sexual assault.
Al Masri denied the offence, claiming the sex was consensual, but was found guilty at a trial in July. He was sentenced on Friday and also received a restraining order and a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The woman had been walking through Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester on 22 December when Al Masri and another man approached her. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated that Al Masri posed as a 'good Samaritan' and targeted a lone woman he believed to be vulnerable.
Greater Manchester Police located the address after the woman's boyfriend contacted them, having shared her location. Al Masri was arrested at the house in Abbey Hey, while the second man was arrested but later released without charge, according to the CPS.
In a victim impact statement, the woman described her fear, stating she thought she was "going to die" and questioned if she would leave with her life. Det Con Oliver Smith of Greater Manchester Police expressed hope that the sentencing would offer her solace.
