A man has been jailed for killing his opponent in a pub brawl just before Christmas last year. Nathan Gothard, 28, was sentenced to prison after delivering a fatal punch to 66-year-old David Darke.
According to reports, Gothard had been involved in a fight with Darke at the pub in the early hours of the morning. Despite initially being beaten, Gothard regained his composure and delivered a fatal blow, which ultimately led to Darke's death.
The incident occurred at the pub on December 20th last year, with Gothard initially being charged with manslaughter. However, he was later found guilty of murder and sentenced to prison.
A spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated that Gothard's actions were 'completely unacceptable' and that he had shown a 'complete disregard for human life'.
Gothard's sentencing has been met with condemnation from local residents, who have described the incident as 'absolutely shocking'.
