Eugeniu Neamtu, 59, has been jailed for life for the murder of his flatmate, Gheorghe Trica, 63, in Walthamstow, east London. Appearing at the Old Bailey on Friday, Judge Richard Marks KC sentenced Neamtu to a minimum term of 27 years.
Neamtu, a construction worker known as Jimmy, was found guilty of fatally stabbing Mr Trica on 20 February. The court heard that the killing was triggered by Mr Trica asking to be repaid £5.
The court also heard that Neamtu had previously been jailed in Romania in May 2007 for 15 years for murdering another housemate in 2006. He travelled to the UK as a visitor in September 2023 after his release, failing to declare his previous conviction or intention to work to UK authorities.
