A disqualified driver has been jailed for 13-and-a-half years after causing the death of a great-grandfather in Broughty Ferry. Fraser Garden killed 74-year-old John Bell, also known as Jack, when he crashed a stolen Maserati into his garden in April.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Garden, 55, had taken cocaine and was driving at approximately three times the speed limit. Data from the car showed it was travelling at 85mph in a 30mph zone shortly before the collision.
Garden, who had 90 previous convictions and two previous lifetime driving bans, had stolen the Maserati Quattroporte from a nearby garage on the day of the incident. He admitted to causing Bell's death by dangerous driving.
