Del Somerville, a 42-year-old father-of-two, has been jailed for two years after pleading guilty to violent disorder. The charge relates to an overnight anti-migrant protest near Eastney Marina in Portsmouth on 6 September.
Portsmouth Crown Court heard that Mr Somerville was identified in police body-worn video throwing a small bottle and swearing at police officers. Prosecutor Edward Warren stated that Mr Somerville was part of a large group of demonstrators protesting the arrival of approximately 120 migrants.
Judge Daniel Sawyer told Mr Somerville that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others. Mr Somerville, from Portsmouth, pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of assaulting a police officer from an incident on 11 September, and will face trial for this at a later date.
Four other men are awaiting sentence after also being charged with violent disorder following the Eastney protest.
