  • Matthew Williams, 37, pleaded not guilty to being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury, resulting in death.
  • Lila Hall, 78, died at the scene after being attacked on Willis Pearson Avenue in Bilston on 15 April.
  • The trial date has been set for 11 October 2027.

Matthew Williams, 37, of Wolverhampton, has pleaded not guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court to a charge of being the owner or person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury that resulted in a person's death.

The charge relates to the death of Lila Hall, 78, who was attacked on Willis Pearson Avenue in Bilston on 15 April and died at the scene. Mr Williams was granted conditional bail.

The court heard that two mixed bully breed dogs, named Hank and King, were involved. Mr Williams reportedly accepted ownership of the dogs but denied being in control of them, stating they were under the control of his grandmother.

A judge questioned whether there should be two counts due to the involvement of two dogs, an issue that will be revisited at a hearing in March. The trial is scheduled to begin on 11 October 2027.
