  • The suspension follows a rise in participant numbers, with 590 people completing the course last Saturday.
  • Organisers reported an increase in incidents of runners being barged or tripped due to overtaking in confined areas.

The parkrun event in Weymouth has been suspended for two weeks following a rise in attendance and safety concerns regarding runners overtaking on narrow sections of the course. Organisers stated that events scheduled for 22 and 29 August have been cancelled.

The Weymouth parkrun, held at Lodmoor Country Park, has recently attracted over 500 participants weekly, with 590 people completing the 5km route last Saturday. Organisers reported an increase in incidents where participants were barged into or tripped due to overtaking in confined areas.

In a statement on their Facebook page, organisers said they ask participants to keep to the left side of the path, particularly on the 'out and back' stretch. They added that every reported incident requires "several hours of work for our core team."

What this means for you: If you are a participant of Weymouth parkrun, events on 22 and 29 August are cancelled.
