Paul Jennings, from Loxley in south Warwickshire, underwent a mastectomy after a pre-cancerous lump was found in his chest. He initially noticed a small lump while recovering from a cold and thought it might be a rash.

Tests revealed the lump, leading to specialists at Warwick Hospital performing a biopsy after attempts to drain it were unsuccessful. Jennings was then informed that a mastectomy was the best course of action.

The operation removed an 8mm lump from the right side of his chest. Almost two years on, Jennings is sharing his story to encourage men to check themselves, highlighting that 67% of men are reportedly unaware they can develop breast cancer, according to research by the charity Moobs.

Why this matters: The case highlights the importance of awareness regarding male breast cancer, which many men may not realise they can develop.

What this means for you: If you find a lump or a bump, it is advisable to make an appointment to get it checked out.
