South Korea's capital, Seoul, is noted for its beauty treatments, which combine traditional medicinal practices with advanced technology. These treatments, including 'glass skin' facials and skin boosters, are often considered essential maintenance rather than vanity.
A significant factor drawing medical tourists to South Korea is the cost. Many treatments are reportedly 30 to 50 per cent cheaper than in the UK, Europe, and the US. Additionally, some of these treatments are not yet available outside South Korea.
Clinics and spas in Seoul frequently use technology for assessments and diagnoses before treatments. Dr Christine Hall, a GP and K-beauty expert, states that this technology helps understand individual needs by analysing skin or scalp for hydration, pigmentation, and elasticity.
Among the experiences available are traditional body scrubs known as seshin, lymphatic drainage massages, and in-depth scalp treatments. Scalp care, which can involve up to 21 steps, often begins with a trichology assessment using a digital microscope.
