Manchester United are confident they can challenge for major honours, despite their summer spending of £148m falling short of rivals like Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester City. Manager Michael Carrick and chief executive Omar Berrada share the view that success is achievable.
Carrick stated, "I certainly feel we can," emphasising the importance of squad dynamics and balance over the amount of money spent. He rejected the idea that the club's hierarchy imposed spending restrictions.
Chief executive Omar Berrada affirmed the club's goal to operate competitively with a sustainable financial structure, even with total borrowings of £1.29bn. He told the Fans Forum on 30 July that United aims to win trophies while managing debt and aspiring to build a new stadium.
Carrick believes the squad is stronger now than at the end of last season, following the arrivals of Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans, alongside the emergence of 19-year-old Shea Lacey. United finished third last season, winning 12 of Carrick's 17 games in charge.
