Manchester City are reportedly targeting Chelsea's Enzo Fernández as a potential new signing. However, Chelsea's valuation for the attacking midfielder, believed to be around £120m, may prove too high for City.
City manager Enzo Maresca is understood to be keen on Fernández, having worked with him for a season-and-a-half at Chelsea before Maresca's tenure ended in January. The 25-year-old was a key player in Maresca's team that finished fourth and won the Europa Conference in 2024-25, as well as the Fifa Club World Cup last summer.
Chelsea are understood to be intent on their asking price, suggesting any transfer may include add-ons. The west London club is also thought to have enquired about Bournemouth's Alex Scott as a potential replacement should Fernández depart.
If City were to sign Fernández, a World Cup winner with Argentina in 2022 and Chelsea's captain, it could add seniority and leadership to Maresca's squad. His combative style is also seen as potentially offering an edge to City's play. The arrival of Fernández could also see another midfielder, such as Tijjani Reijnders, offloaded, especially as Rodri is reportedly intent on a move to Barcelona.
City have already recruited Elliott Anderson for £116m from Nottingham Forest and are reportedly close to signing Ayyoub Bouaddi for around £85m from Lille. On Wednesday, City announced the signing of goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli on a two-year deal, following James Trafford's move to Leeds.
