Manchester United's Left-Back Search Continues Amid Transfer Window Deadline

Manchester United is still seeking a left-back reinforcement with less than two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, despite manager Michael Carrick's desire to enhance the squad.

  • Manchester United's search for a left-back to challenge Luke Shaw is ongoing with less than two weeks left in the summer transfer window.
  • Negotiations for Lewis Hall have stalled due to Newcastle valuing him at approximately £70m, a price United is reluctant to pay.
  • Manager Michael Carrick has stated the club needs to keep pushing to enhance the squad.

Manchester United's pursuit of a left-back continues with less than two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window. The club's need for reinforcement in this position is clear, especially given Luke Shaw's history with injuries and the expectation of over 50 games this season with the return of Champions League football.

United's analysts had identified Lewis Hall, a 21-year-old English full-back, but negotiations have reportedly stalled. Newcastle values Hall at around £70m, a price Manchester United is reluctant to meet, particularly after losing key players like Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimarães.

Manager Michael Carrick, who guided United to third place last season, expressed his desire for further squad enhancement. He stated last week, "We're delighted with that [but] we want more, we need more. We keep looking for how we can do that, so that never stops."

While United appears close to securing Carlos Baleba for their midfield, the left-back position remains a concern. Shaw struggled in a recent 4-2 pre-season defeat to Ruben Amorim’s Milan, highlighting the need for additional options. Although Jorge Salinas and Joaquin Seys have been linked, they are considered unready to displace Shaw.

Why this matters: Failing to sign a left-back could be a costly transfer mistake for Manchester United, potentially impacting squad depth and performance in a season expected to feature over 50 games.
