The body of a man was discovered inside a burning car on Harford Street in Portadown, County Armagh, on Saturday evening. Police and firefighters were called to the scene in the town centre at about 22:00 BST.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Ch Insp Tierney from the Police Service of Northern Ireland stated that the circumstances are under investigation, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The cause of the car fire will also be investigated.
The vehicle had smashed windows and was significantly damaged by the fire. Police reported that a neighbouring property on the street sustained scorch damage. Ammunition Technical Officers were also tasked to the scene, confirming there is no risk to the public.
Carla Lockhart, MP for Upper Bann, expressed sympathy to the man's loved ones and urged the public to avoid speculation while police conduct their investigation.
