Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has opted to defer discussions about his future until the outcome of the club’s appeal against Premier League financial rule breaches is known. Maresca, who took over from Pep Guardiola during the summer, addressed the independent commission's findings for the first time.
The Italian manager affirmed his complete “trust” in Manchester City and its leadership. He stated, “I will speak about this when we win the appeal,” adding that he trusts the club because he trusts the people within it.
Maresca also indicated he would have “100 per cent” taken the job in the summer even if the guilty verdict had already been announced. He believes the club is “honest” and “do the right things,” expressing conviction that they will win the appeal.
The independent commission's verdict alleged that Manchester City concealed over £900m of funding from their Abu Dhabi ownership to meet Premier League spending rules between 2009 and 2018. City has consistently maintained their innocence, asserting that the verdict contains “clear material errors.”
