Consumer champion Martin Lewis has provided a series of practical tips aimed at helping holidaymakers reduce the cost of a break at Center Parcs. The popular holiday villages, known for their family-friendly facilities and woodland settings, often come with a premium price tag, prompting many families to seek ways to make their trips more affordable.
Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, emphasised the importance of strategic booking. He advised that securing a holiday as far in advance as possible is often the most effective way to lock in lower prices. Conversely, for those with flexibility, he also suggested keeping an eye out for last-minute availability, which can sometimes lead to discounted rates, although this carries the risk of limited choice.
Another key piece of advice from Lewis focused on timing. He highlighted that booking holidays during off-peak periods, particularly outside of school holidays, can lead to substantial savings. While this may not be feasible for all families, those with pre-school children or who can take advantage of inset days could benefit significantly from reduced prices during term-time.
Beyond the initial booking, Lewis also tackled in-resort spending, which can quickly inflate the total cost of a holiday. He strongly recommended bringing your own food and drinks, rather than relying solely on the often more expensive restaurants and shops within Center Parcs. Additionally, he suggested making the most of the numerous free activities available, such as swimming in the Subtropical Swimming Paradise, walking, and cycling, to minimise expenditure on paid attractions.
The advice comes as many UK households continue to grapple with the rising cost of living, making holiday planning a careful balancing act between desired experiences and budget constraints. Center Parcs operates several villages across the UK, including locations in Sherwood Forest, Longleat Forest, Elveden Forest, Whinfell Forest, Woburn Forest, and Longford Forest in Ireland, attracting millions of visitors annually.
