Matt Fitzpatrick 'not comfortable' playing DP World Tour events in Middle East

Golfer Matt Fitzpatrick has stated he would not be comfortable playing in upcoming DP World Tour events in the Middle East due to ongoing regional conflict.

  • Matt Fitzpatrick, 2022 US Open winner, expressed discomfort playing in the Middle East due to regional conflict.
  • The 2026 DP World Tour season finale includes back-to-back events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in November.
  • DP World Tour leadership has not yet made a decision on whether to stage these events in the planned locations.

Matt Fitzpatrick, the 2022 US Open winner, has voiced his discomfort regarding playing in upcoming DP World Tour events in the Middle East. He cited the ongoing conflict in the region as his reason.

The finale of the 2026 DP World Tour season is scheduled to feature back-to-back events in the United Arab Emirates: the Abu Dhabi Championship from 5-8 November, followed by the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai a week later.

Fitzpatrick stated, "Being completely honest as things stand right now, I would say I’m not that comfortable [playing in the Middle East]." He also mentioned that having a child in August has changed his perspective. The DP World Tour leadership has yet to decide on the staging of these events.

Fellow golfer Shane Lowry, who won the Irish Open last week, indicated he would wait for the Tour's decision. Lowry noted he was planning a break this winter and was not yet qualified for the Middle East events.

Why this matters: The potential cancellation or relocation of these high-profile golf tournaments could impact the DP World Tour season and the sport's presence in the region.
