British cyclist Matthew Brennan has powered to his fourth stage win of the 2026 Vuelta a Espana, triumphing in a sprint finish in Palos de la Frontera. The 21-year-old Visma Lease-a-bike rider crossed the line ahead of Bryan Coquard and Vito Braet in stage 16.
Brennan celebrated his achievement, his fourth victory in his debut Grand Tour, by holding up four fingers. He stated, "It's unbelievable, four victories here and the plan was for one."
The 181km stage was anticipated to favour sprinters, and a five-man breakaway was reeled in by the peloton with approximately 23km remaining, setting up the expected bunch sprint finale.
In the general classification, Spanish rider Enric Mas of Team Movistar maintained his lead, holding a 2min 6sec advantage over Felix Gall. Primoz Roglic sits a further four seconds behind.
The next stage, scheduled for Wednesday, will cover 185km from Dos Hermanas to Seville and is also expected to conclude with a sprint finish.
