Matthias Jaissle is in pole position to become Newcastle's new manager, with the Premier League season just three weeks away. The 38-year-old German coach is expected to take over from Eddie Howe, who is leaving his role after five years.
Howe departs with a strong legacy, having led Newcastle to their first major trophy in 70 years with the 2025 Carabao Cup and reaching the Champions League last-16 last season. He is reportedly keen to take a break from football.
Jaissle, a two-time Asian Champions League winner with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, has also secured the Saudi Super Cup in 2025. Before his time in Saudi Arabia, he guided Red Bull Salzburg to consecutive Austrian Bundesliga titles and the Austrian Cup. His coaching philosophy is described as high-intensity, attacking football.
Newcastle's first Premier League match of the season is against Liverpool at St James' Park, just 24 days after Jaissle's reported appointment.
