Scottish Rugby (SRU) has dismissed CEO Alex Williamson with immediate effect, following the conclusion of a lengthy independent investigation into his conduct. Williamson had been on extended leave since May this year when the investigation began.
John McGuigan, Chairman of Scottish Rugby Limited, stated that the board concluded Williamson's conduct "had fallen significantly below the standards we set as an organisation." No specific details of the investigation were provided by the governing body.
Williamson was appointed in September 2024 and commenced his role at Murrayfield in early 2025, succeeding Mark Dodson. He previously led the Goodwood Estate and was a former CEO of House of Fraser.
David White, the current chief financial officer, is anticipated to step in as interim chief executive. The SRU will now begin the process of finding a permanent replacement, less than two years after its previous recruitment efforts.
