An exclusive Mayfair private members' club, Maison Estelle, has been temporarily shut down by the Metropolitan Police due to safety concerns. The closure follows an application by police to Westminster City Council to suspend the club's licence.
Police stated that reports of "serious crime, or serious disorder, or both" at the venue prompted the decision. The club, which has reportedly been visited by figures including Sarah Ferguson and Kim Kardashian, closed its doors on Tuesday.
The suspension of the licence was agreed at an interim steps hearing on September 24, where Maison Estelle did not oppose the application. The closure is set to last for a minimum of 28 days, with the council's sub-committee scheduled to consider the application in full within that timeframe.
Maison Estelle informed its members that it would be shut "for a few weeks" due to a "serious public safety matter outside the premises," according to reports.
