McLaren to create 1,000 UK jobs with £450m Woking tech investment

Supercar manufacturer McLaren plans to create 1,000 jobs in the UK as part of a £450m investment in its Woking technology centre.

  • McLaren's £450m investment will be directed towards its technology centre in Woking.
  • The new roles will include positions for indirect and agency workers.
  • McLaren currently employs 2,500 staff and recently merged with Forseven Holdings.

British supercar manufacturer McLaren is set to create 1,000 jobs in the UK. This expansion is part of a £450m investment in its technology centre located in Woking, near its vehicle manufacturing plant.

The new positions will encompass indirect and agency workers. McLaren, which recently merged with premium UK electric vehicle startup Forseven Holdings, currently has a workforce of 2,500 staff.

This announcement follows Jaguar Land Rover's confirmation of plans to cut 4,000 jobs over the next two years, primarily affecting salaried and management workers among its 26,000 UK employees.

Last year, CYVN Holdings, an Abu Dhabi government-owned investment company, acquired McLaren's automotive business. CYVN has stated intentions to invest $2bn (£1.4bn) over the next five years to support the group.

Why this matters: The job creation by McLaren offers a boost to the UK's automotive industry, which has faced challenges including job cuts at other manufacturers and tough trading conditions for European carmakers.
