Mecka AI, a startup that gathers and analyses human motion data to train humanoid and other types of robots, has announced a $60 million Series B funding round. Sequoia led the investment, with Nvidia and Microsoft's venture fund M12 also participating.
Founded in 2024, Mecka AI aims to provide human-generated data for robotics, similar to how companies like Scale AI have supplied data for large language models (LLMs). The company pays individuals to record themselves performing everyday tasks, such as making coffee or repairing cars, while utilising body sensors and smartphones.
TechCrunch had previously reported that Mecka AI was nearing a new funding round at a valuation of $500 million. Other startups in the sector include XDOF, which was reportedly in talks for a Series B round at a $1.2 billion valuation, and human-data platforms like Scale AI and Micro1, which are expanding into robotics.
