Heavy thunderstorms will lash four UK regions for 15 hours from midday Tuesday, with the Met Office warning of flooding, power cuts and travel disruption across large swathes of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The yellow weather warning, running until 3am Wednesday, covers England's North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humber, West Midlands and East Midlands. In Scotland, central, southern and eastern areas face disruption, alongside much of Wales and Northern Ireland.
Rainfall could reach 20-30mm within an hour, with isolated areas seeing up to 50mm over several hours. Wind gusts up to 40mph will accompany the strongest storms, threatening temporary power outages and structural damage.
The deluge poses particular risks for urban areas and roads, where localised flooding is likely. Motorists face hazardous driving conditions with sudden flooding and spray, whilst train and bus services could face delays and cancellations.
Residents should secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm activity. Despite temperatures holding between 15°C and 18°C, conditions will feel notably cooler during downpours.
The warning extends a period of unsettled weather, with atmospheric instability suggesting further storms ahead. The Met Office will update warnings as conditions develop, urging the public to monitor official channels for the latest information.
