The UK is bracing itself for a sweltering heatwave, with temperatures set to soar towards 30°C in many areas by the end of this week. The Met Office has issued a fresh warning covering significant parts of the country, sparking concerns over public health and safety.
Forecasters predict that central and southern England will bear the brunt of the heat, with London and the South East potentially reaching highs of 32°C. While temperatures in the Midlands and Wales will be slightly lower, at around 28-29°C, they are still expected to be significantly higher than average.
In Scotland and Northern Ireland, temperatures will also be notably warmer than usual, peaking in the mid-20s – around 24-26°C – particularly in eastern regions. The Met Office warns that light winds will exacerbate the heat, making it feel even more oppressive in urban areas.
As a precautionary measure, the public is advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity between 11 am and 3 pm. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions are urged to take extra precautions and ensure their pets also have access to water and shade.
The duration of this heatwave is being closely monitored, but current projections suggest it will last for several days over the weekend before potentially easing early next week. The Met Office will continue to update its forecasts and warnings as necessary, reminding the public to stay informed and follow local guidance.
