The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings across the entire UK for this weekend, with heavy rain and strong winds set to bring widespread disruption to travel and daily life.
England's North West, including Liverpool, faces the heaviest downpours with 30-50mm of rain forecast over 24 hours. Higher ground could see up to 70mm, whilst coastal areas brace for wind gusts reaching 50mph. The combination raises serious flooding concerns, particularly around saturated ground and smaller rivers. The South West and parts of the Midlands are also under rain warnings.
Wales will endure a thoroughly wet and windy weekend, with yellow warnings covering most of the country. Persistent rainfall threatens surface water flooding and treacherous driving conditions on major routes. Scotland's western and central regions face heavy downpours and strong gusts, with particular risks of standing water reducing visibility for motorists. Northern Ireland expects similar conditions with heavy rain and blustery weather.
Despite mild temperatures of 9°C to 13°C throughout the weekend, the rain-wind combination will create a much colder feel outdoors. Residents should allow extra journey time, watch for potential road closures from flooding, and secure loose outdoor items.
The Met Office urges checking local flood alerts, avoiding driving through floodwater, and staying alert to spray and standing water on roads. Pedestrians should exercise caution near coastal paths and open areas where strong winds pose hazards. Power cuts remain possible as wind and rain affect infrastructure.
