Heavy rain will batter Greater Manchester this weekend after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning from early Saturday morning, threatening localised flooding and travel disruption across the region.
Forecasters predict 20-40mm of rain will fall across most areas, with up to 60mm possible on higher ground. The persistent nature of the downpours poses the greatest risk, increasing the likelihood of surface water flooding and rising river levels. Wind speeds will remain light at 5-10mph, though gusts could reach 15-20mph on exposed hills.
Similar yellow warnings cover parts of the North West and Yorkshire, forming a broad band of unsettled weather across northern England. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland face scattered showers, particularly in western areas, with temperatures around 10-12°C. Greater Manchester will be cooler at 8-10°C during the warning period.
Commuters should check road conditions and transport updates before travelling, as standing water may make some routes impassable. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to review their flood plans and secure outdoor items that could be swept away or damaged by strong winds.
Driving conditions will prove challenging with reduced visibility and longer braking distances expected. The Met Office continues monitoring the situation and may issue further updates if conditions worsen.
