Twenty areas across the UK face significant rainfall and potential flooding after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning covering large parts of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Heavy downpours are set to begin Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday morning, with forecasters warning of localised flooding, treacherous driving conditions, and possible power cuts. Rainfall totals could reach 20-30mm across most areas, with isolated spots seeing up to 60mm over just a few hours.
The South West, South East, and North West of England bear the brunt of the warning, alongside central and northern Wales and Northern Ireland's coastal areas. Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Greater Manchester, and Lancashire are among the English regions affected, whilst Welsh communities in Powys, Carmarthenshire, and Gwynedd have been told to remain vigilant.
Northern Ireland's County Down and County Antrim coasts are also covered by the advisory. Scotland escapes this warning, though residents are advised to monitor local forecasts for changes.
Temperatures will remain mild at 10-14°C, but moderate winds of 10-20mph could create stronger gusts along exposed coasts, worsening driving conditions during the heaviest rainfall. Higher ground faces the greatest risk of extreme downpours.
The Met Office urges drivers to allow extra journey time and check road conditions before travelling. Homeowners in flood-prone areas should take preventative action now. The yellow warning indicates possible impacts requiring residents to consider what steps they might need to take, rather than posing immediate danger to life.
