Heavy rain will batter Coalville and surrounding areas of Leicestershire from 6pm Tuesday until early Wednesday morning, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for flooding and travel disruption.
Forecasters predict 20-30mm of rainfall within hours, with isolated spots potentially seeing up to 40mm. This raises the risk of surface water flooding on roads, making driving conditions treacherous during the evening rush hour and overnight.
The yellow warning covers a broader swathe of the East Midlands, extending across much of Leicestershire and into neighbouring counties. Wind speeds will remain light at below 15mph, reducing the risk of structural damage but doing little to ease flood concerns.
Elsewhere across Britain, northern England and Scotland face cooler, showery conditions with possible hill snow at higher elevations. Wales and Northern Ireland will also see periods of rain, though less severe than the East Midlands forecast. Temperatures remain mild for the season at 8-12C, but will feel cooler in persistent downpours.
The Met Office urges residents to monitor local flood alerts, particularly those in flood-prone areas. Homeowners should clear drains and gutters to manage rainwater runoff, whilst drivers must allow extra journey time, reduce speeds and watch for spray and standing water on roads.
