Heavy rain will batter Rotherham and South Yorkshire from midnight Friday as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for flooding and travel disruption across northern England.
The 18-hour alert runs from 12:00 AM on Friday, 19th April until 6:00 PM, with forecasters predicting 20-30mm of rain widely and up to 60mm in isolated areas. The deluge on already saturated ground raises the risk of surface water flooding and rising river levels.
Rotherham residents face challenging commutes with longer journey times on roads and public transport. Spray and flooding will make driving difficult and potentially hazardous, whilst power cuts and service disruptions are possible across affected areas.
Scotland will see mixed showers and brighter spells with cooler temperatures of 8-10°C. Wales faces showery conditions, particularly in the west, whilst Northern Ireland expects scattered heavy showers with moderate winds.
The Met Office urges residents to check local flood warnings, clear drains where safe, and allow extra travel time. Drivers should reduce speed, use headlights, and avoid floodwater. Temperatures in Rotherham will range 10-12°C with south-easterly winds of 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
Local authorities across Rotherham and surrounding areas are monitoring conditions closely and stand ready to respond to flood incidents. Residents should stay updated with the latest forecasts from the Met Office and their local council.
