Grantham faces gusts of up to 50 mph today after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds across the East Midlands this morning.
The warning covers Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire, with winds expected to peak between 10am and 3pm before easing through the evening. Temperatures will hover around 9-11°C, though the strong winds will make conditions feel considerably colder.
The Met Office warns of potential minor structural damage to fences and garden sheds, alongside possible disruption to road, rail, air and ferry transport. Some households may face short-term power cuts. Drivers of high-sided vehicles are urged to take extreme care on exposed routes and bridges.
Residents should secure loose garden items including trampolines, furniture and bins to prevent damage or injury. Pedestrians are advised to watch for falling debris and check travel updates before journeys.
The yellow wind warning extends across central and eastern England, whilst Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland experience similar blustery conditions with sunshine and showers. Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland see temperatures of 6-9°C, with Wales facing a similar pattern of strong winds and intermittent rain.
Winds are forecast to ease considerably by late afternoon in Grantham, giving way to a brighter but cooler evening. Overnight temperatures will drop to 4-6°C, with the Met Office continuing to monitor conditions for any updates to warnings.
