Heavy rain is set to batter Telford and Wrekin this afternoon after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning, raising the prospect of localised flooding and hazardous travel conditions.
The heaviest downpours are expected through late afternoon and evening, with forecasters warning that intense rainfall over short periods could overwhelm drainage systems and create surface water flooding. Motorists face significantly reduced visibility and treacherous road conditions.
Temperatures will hover around 14°C with light winds of 5-10 mph, though gusts could strengthen during the heaviest showers. The warning remains in force until later this evening, with conditions improving overnight as the rain moves away.
Authorities are urging residents to secure loose garden furniture, clear drains and gutters, and check on vulnerable neighbours. Anyone encountering floodwater should avoid driving or walking through it, as depths can be deceptive and currents dangerous.
Across the wider UK, England's Midlands and South West are experiencing mixed showers and brighter spells, whilst Scotland and Northern Ireland enjoy more settled conditions with temperatures between 12°C and 16°C. Wales faces similar unsettled weather to parts of England.
Power cuts remain possible during intense weather, with residents advised to charge mobile phones and keep essential supplies accessible.
