Heavy rain and strong winds are set to batter Stone today after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for Staffordshire and much of the West Midlands.
Forecasters warn of significant downpours bringing 20-30mm of rain within hours, with exposed higher ground potentially seeing 40-50mm. Strong winds will accompany the deluge, with gusts reaching 40-50 mph on higher ground and coastal areas, and 30-40 mph inland. The combination of saturated ground and fierce winds raises the risk of localised flooding and power cuts.
Similar conditions are forecast across England, particularly the Midlands and parts of the South West, with widespread rain and blustery winds. Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland face wet and windy weather, though less severe than central England, with temperatures between 7°C and 11°C. Wales expects persistent rain, especially in western areas, creating standing water on roads and hazardous driving conditions.
Temperatures in Stone will hover around 7-9°C during the day, but wind chill will make it feel considerably colder. The Met Office urges residents to secure loose outdoor items, check local flood alerts, and allow extra time for journeys. Drivers must watch for spray and standing water that could reduce visibility and increase braking distances.
The Atlantic weather system brings unsettled conditions expected to persist for 24 to 48 hours. While the yellow warning indicates moderate risk, potential localised impacts mean residents and workers in affected areas should remain vigilant.
Travellers should check updates from transport providers and the Met Office before setting off. Though not widespread, power outages remain possible, and residents are advised to keep torches and fully charged mobile phones ready.
