Strong winds of up to 60mph are set to batter much of the UK over the next 24 hours, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for widespread disruption.
The warning covers large parts of England and Wales, southern Scotland and eastern Northern Ireland, with gusts reaching 50-60mph inland and potentially stronger speeds along exposed coastlines.
Travel chaos is expected, particularly for high-sided vehicles on exposed roads and bridges, whilst rail and ferry services face likely delays. Power cuts and minor building damage from loose tiles and damaged temporary structures are also possible.
The South West, South East, East of England and Midlands are among the worst-hit English regions, with Welsh coastal communities bearing the brunt of the conditions. Northern Ireland's eastern counties and Scotland's southern borders will also see severe gusts.
Despite mild temperatures of 8°C to 12°C, the wind chill will make conditions feel considerably colder across affected areas.
The Met Office is urging residents to secure garden furniture and trampolines, and to check travel updates before journeys. The strong winds stem from an intensified Atlantic low-pressure system typical for this time of year.
Emergency services and local authorities are monitoring the situation closely, with conditions expected to ease towards the end of the week as the weather system moves through.
