The warnings cover significant parts of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland from Saturday morning through Sunday, whilst Scotland faces considerable wind speeds despite not being under formal rain warnings.
Forecasters predict inland gusts of 45-55mph, rising to 65mph along exposed coastal areas. These conditions could dislodge roof tiles, create hazardous driving for high-sided vehicles, and reduce road visibility when combined with persistent downpours.
The rainfall threatens localised surface water flooding, particularly in areas with saturated ground or poor drainage. Transport networks face likely delays, with potential road closures in the worst-affected regions and disruption to bus and train services.
The yellow wind warning encompasses much of England, particularly the south-west, south-east, parts of the Midlands and north. Wales sits entirely within the warning area, alongside Northern Ireland. Scotland's west and north expect strong winds, with temperatures remaining mild at 10-14°C across the UK.
The Met Office urges residents to secure loose garden items including trampolines and furniture before the winds arrive. Travellers should check weather updates and traffic information, whilst pedestrians must watch for falling debris.
Anyone encountering localised flooding should avoid walking or driving through floodwater, as depths can be deceptive and currents dangerously strong.
