The Met Orchestra recently made its Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall, presenting an all-Strauss programme. The performance featured conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin and soprano Elza van den Heever.
The programme included the Rosenkavalier suite, which Nézet-Séguin conducted, allowing the music to unfold naturally. The second half of the evening was dedicated to Strauss's tone poem, Ein Heldenleben, which Nézet-Séguin delivered an exceptional reading of.
South African soprano Elza van den Heever performed the final scene from Salome, described as a visceral account. She also gave an account of Strauss's Zueignung.
