Met Police Charge Suspects Over Antisemitic Hate Crimes

The Metropolitan Police have announced charges against three individuals in connection with a series of alleged antisemitic hate crimes in London. These charges follow investigations into incidents including property damage and threatening behaviour.

  • Three individuals have been charged with antisemitic hate crimes by the Metropolitan Police.
  • Charges include criminal damage, racially/religiously aggravated harassment, and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • Incidents occurred in areas including Golders Green and Hendon.

Three men have been charged with antisemitic hate crimes following a series of incidents targeting Jewish communities in north London, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Feras Al Jayoosi, 34, of Cranley Gardens, Southgate, faces two counts of criminal damage, one count of racially/religiously aggravated criminal damage, and one count of racially/religiously aggravated harassment (fear of violence). The charges relate to incidents on Golders Green Road on 23rd October 2023 and Brent Street on 28th October 2023. He will appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court on 12th June.

Nicholas Arkinson, 20, of The Boulevard, Wembley, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress following an incident on Golders Green Road on 28th October 2023. He is scheduled to appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court on 26th June.

Zakaria Khan, 23, of no fixed address, faces charges of racially/religiously aggravated criminal damage and racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress relating to an incident on Golders Green Road on 28th October 2023. Khan will also appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court on 26th June.

The charges come during a period of heightened concern over hate crimes, particularly antisemitism, across the UK. The Metropolitan Police have previously reported a significant rise in antisemitic offences following international events.

The force has reiterated its commitment to tackling such crimes and supporting affected communities in areas including Golders Green and Hendon, which have significant Jewish populations.

Why this matters: The charges demonstrate the Metropolitan Police's commitment to tackling hate crimes, which have seen a rise in recent times, particularly antisemitic incidents. This impacts community safety and the sense of security for Jewish communities across London.

What this means for you: Local Jewish communities may feel safer knowing police are taking antisemitic crimes seriously and pursuing prosecutions. All residents should report hate crimes immediately to police, as these incidents can escalate and affect community cohesion. Property owners targeted by hate crimes can seek victim support services through local councils and police victim units.
