The Met Police's decision to establish special teams to tackle a surge in incidents targeting London's Jewish communities has sparked hope among community leaders. Despite concerns being raised for several months, it is only recently that the scale of the problem has become more apparent.
According to sources, the number of reported hate crimes against Jews has increased significantly over the past year, with multiple incidents of vandalism, assault, and threats made towards Jewish individuals documented. The Metropolitan Police Service's establishment of 'Manhunters', a dedicated team tasked with investigating these crimes, marks a significant development in their efforts to combat this surge.
The special teams will reportedly work closely with community leaders to identify those responsible for the incidents and track down suspects. In addition, the Met has encouraged community members to report any suspicious activity or incidents they may witness, reiterating their commitment to tackling hate crimes head-on.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Service stated: 'We take all reports of hate crimes seriously and are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.' This stance is welcomed by Rabbi Hershel Gluck, leader of the United Synagogue, who comments: 'This is a positive step forward in addressing the growing concern within our community.'
