Meta announced on Tuesday that companies can now use AI agents to set up and manage WhatsApp Business messaging. This service allows businesses to communicate with customers via WhatsApp conversations.
Previously, developers had to navigate multiple tools and services for this process, including the Developer Console and Meta’s Business Manager. Now, they can instruct their chosen AI agent to perform these tasks through chat.
This new functionality is facilitated by the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, which provides a direct connection between AI coding agents like Claude, Cursor, Codex, or ChatGPT and the WhatsApp Business Platform.
AI agents can manage various setup tasks, such as creating a WhatsApp Business account, adding and verifying phone numbers, and registering for Cloud API access. They can also assist with creating or editing messaging templates, testing messages, and monitoring for issues with terms of service or business verification.
