Meta has launched Muse Code, a new AI terminal coding agent aimed at assisting programmers with complex tasks across large software code bases. The agent is currently available in beta.
According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Muse Code can accomplish “complete software engineering tasks across large repos,” which include “planning changes, writing code, validating the results.”
The agent is powered by Meta’s previously released Muse Spark coding model. It manages large projects by launching its own sub-agents that work simultaneously. Zuckerberg stated that “When a job is big enough, it fans out to separate sub-agents working in parallel in isolated worktrees.” He added that in testing, it built six features for a game simultaneously without collisions.
Alexandr Wang, Meta’s AI chief, told the Wall Street Journal that Muse Code could be an “incredibly good option, especially from a cost perspective,” for many workflows and use cases. This move aims to position Meta more competitively against AI Lab peers such as OpenAI with Codex and Anthropic with Claude Code.
