Meta launched a new open-weight AI model, Muse Spark Open, on Thursday. The company claims this model rivals, and in some cases outperforms, similar products from leading Chinese developers.
Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief of AI, stated on X that Muse Spark Open "is the most capable US open-weight model to date." Unlike closed models, open-weight models allow developers to download and modify their parameters, known as weights and biases.
Meta claims Muse Spark Open, which is "built for coding and agentic work," excels at "long-horizon tasks, complex software engineering, and multi-step reasoning." The company also stated that "strong safeguards" have been integrated into the new model.
Muse Spark Open is "optimized" to run on Apple's advanced M5 Ultra chips. Meta noted that users can run the model on two Mac Studios with M5 Ultra chips to create a "supercomputer" on their desktop.
