Meta announced new virtual reality glasses and a range of smart glasses on Wednesday, including an audio-only version that does not feature a camera. The announcements were made at the company's Meta Connect conference in Menlo Park, California.
Executives stated that the new Ray-Ban Meta models establish new benchmarks for battery life and weight. The audio-only Ray-Ban Meta Audio AI glasses, which lack a camera, are designed for music, calls, and interacting with Meta's AI assistant, offering up to 12 hours of battery life and costing £319.
The new Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 glasses, which include cameras, provide up to nine hours of battery life and support Dolby Atmos audio, priced at £409. All of Meta's smart glasses feature an LED warning light that flashes during recording, with improvements made to tampering detection.
Meta is also expanding the availability of its Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, which feature a virtual display in the right lens, to the UK and Canada from 23 September for 749. They will later be available in France, Germany, and Italy from 13 October.
The new Meta VR glasses, weighing 100g, feature a 5K microOLED screen and are tethered by a cable to a 300g computing puck. These glasses are designed for productivity and entertainment, supporting multiple virtual windows and connectivity to Mac or PC displays. They will be available from spring 2027 in North America, Europe, and Asia, costing $1,299.99.
