Michael Seals has been reappointed for a second term as the chair of the Animal Sentience Committee. His current four-year term was due to conclude on 2 September 2026.
Following this reappointment, Mr Seals will continue in the post until 28 October 2028. He first took on the role of chair for the committee on 2 September 2022.
The Animal Sentience Committee was created under the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022. Its purpose is to provide accountability to Parliament regarding the consideration of sentient animal welfare in Ministerial decisions.
Mr Seals is also the current chairman of the Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority and previously chaired the Animal Health and Welfare Board for England. He manages a 250-acre arable farm in Derbyshire.
