Alex Ullom's directorial debut, the indie horror film 'It Ends', has been described as an expertly crafted nightmare. The micro-budget production, made for $50,000, focuses on a group of friends trapped in an endlessly repeating day during a late-night road trip.
The film's narrative sees a carful of friends, after helping one move, get lost in a desolate forest. They are then set upon by people who look eerily similar to them, leading to a continuous drive deeper into the unknown. The characters also experience unusual phenomena, such as a static gas dial and a lack of normal bodily needs.
Director Ullom stated that the film is rooted in his personal struggle with dissociative depression. Despite its low budget, 'It Ends' reportedly achieves the quality of high-concept cult horror classics, exploring existential questions.
